Radhanath Swami is an acclaimed spiritual guide, community builder, author and motivational speaker. He is based in Mumbai, where he leads a congregation of ten thousand devotees in the ancient practices of Bhakti Yoga and oversees the functioning of a number of social initiatives. Radhanath Swami circles the globe every year delivering spiritually motivating talks and guiding people in their spiritual quest. He has delivered lectures at some of the top ranking universities of the world like Harvard, Oxford, Cambridge, Stanford, Columbia, MIT, University of London SOAS, Imperial College and London School of Economics. He is a regular speaker at many leading Multinational Corporations like Google, Intel, Oracle, Apple, E & Y and HSBC.
Radhanath Swami published his memoir The Journey Home in 2010, which soon became a best seller among the yoga communities all over the world. In this book Radhanath Swami candidly describes his search for spirituality when he was a shy teenager; back then he hardly spoke to strangers.
At age nineteen, he hitchhiked through Europe and the Middle-East to reach India, in search of God. He found the answer to his calling in the holy town of Vrindavan, and it was there that he surrendered to his guru His Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. For the service of his guru, Radhanath Swami became a monk and stayed at a mountaintop community in North America for several years.
Radhanath Swami’s main service at the community was worship of the deities and taking care of the cows. But whenever he was asked to discourse, one could expect full attendance. He was especially well-known for his talks from the scripture Caitanya Caritamrita. The scripture is a biography of Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, the incarnation of Krishna, who spread the easy method of God consciousness – the chanting of the holy names Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare, Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare.
In the early 80s he was requested to conduct outreach programs in the colleges of North America. His talks were gripping and witty, and presented wisdom from the ancient scriptures lucidly. The lives of thousands of students were transformed.
In 1986, Radhanath Swami landed in Mumbai for the purpose of sharing Bhakti Yoga with the residents of this metropolis, the largest in India. Soon he had a small following. But until 1988 nobody got the idea of recording his discourses.
A surgeon in Mumbai Dr. Bimal Shah, who later became Vaishnav Seva Prabhu, was the first to come up with the idea of recording Radhanath Swami’s discourses and archiving them. Being from a medical background, Vaishnav Seva Prabhu had to go out of his way to learn sound engineering. True to his name Vaishnav Seva Prabhu – which means ‘servant of devotees’ – he took great pains to ensure regular good quality recordings of Radhanath Swami’s discourses. After he had a good collection of recording, he started the ‘Radhanath Swami Tape Ministry’. Thousands of devotees were benefitted from the tape ministry, and it played a major role in the development of Radhagopinath temple congregation.
In 1997 Vaishnava Seva Prabhu made his debut in the construction industry when he was requested to oversee the design and construction of the Bhaktivedanta Hospital in Mira Road. It was a project conceived by a team of doctors under Radhanath Swami’s guidance. Again Vaishnav Seva prabhu excelled in the construction industry, a field so disconnected from his profession. He proved that nothing is impossible for one motivated by a desire to serve. In 1998, the hospital was inaugurated.
This new development caused a large number of devotees from Radhanath Swami’s congregation to settle in Mira Road, located 40 Kilometres from Radha Gopinath Temple. Vaishnav Seva Prabhu dove deep into telecommunication engineering and setup a system that enabled devotees from Mira Road to hear live spiritual discourses from Radha Gopinath Temple, and especially the discourses of Radhanath Swami.
Vaishnav Seva Prabhu was quick to jump online when internet entered the world scenario. He established a portal iskcondesiretree.com that made available a comprehensive collection of Radhanath Swami’s discourses, as well as those of all ISKCON leaders. It is now the largest online portal in the ISKCON world, and has served millions of people in their spiritual advancement. Beginning with audio, the portal now provides various services to devotees of all age groups and nationalities.
For the disciples of Radhanath Swami, ISKCON Desire Tree started the Radhanath Swami Disciples Forum radhanathswami.us . Through this network ISKCON Desire Tree makes available for devotees, apart from a host of other services, live broadcast of all Radhagopinath temple programs. The network is overloaded especially when Radhanath Swami is speaking at the Radhagopinath temple. Every year when Radhanath Swami takes devotees on pilgrimage, ISKCON Desire Tree broadcasts the proceedings of the pilgrimage live for the benefit of those who couldn’t make it to the pilgrimage. Thus thousands more get the benefit of attending the pilgrimage.
Radhanathswamiradio.com is one more initiative of IDT to serve – the devotee community in particular and humanity at large. You can hear Radhanath Swami 24 hours a day on Radhanath Swami Radio. You can hear his discourses, the bhajans and kirtans sung by him. It is made available on your mobile device for your convenience. Connect and enjoy the bliss of uninterrupted Hari Katha and Hari Kirtan in Radhanath Swami’s divine association.
Vaishnav Seva Prabhu has converted his home into ISKCON Desire Tree office, to serve others. He uses all his income to keep the service going. He is quick to upgrade his personal skills and the skills of his team in an ever changing world of technology. He is ever enthusiastic to serve, but keeps a low profile. He is a man of few words, but great accomplishments.
